40 New Nokia Green Mobile Phones to Launch in 2008

Everyone knows the “Go Green” slogan. You also have an idea that it is important to develop technological or electronic products that are eco-friendly.

Greenpeace had dropped Nokia from 1st position to the 9th spot last year. In order to again attain the first place, Nokia developed their first green phone named 3110 Evolve. The Finnish mobile phone company moves further and plans to develop more phones that use biodegradable materials.

Nokia has announced the plan to launch 40 new green mobile phones this year, in India. The main purpose is the recycling process that would reduce the amount of other harmful components that would damage environment. The mobile phone manufacturer is also preparing a biodegradable phone cover and recycled battery. In the US, the company is already working to promote recycled mobile phones.

The materials to be used include polylactic acid (PLA) plastics with plant or other biomass-based modifiers, which helps to avoid the use of non-renewable materials. In addition to the biodegradable materials-based elastomers to seal off the battery case, Nokia is also working to minimize the energy consumption by charging.

According to Business Standard, D Shivakumar, VP and managing director, Nokia India, stated, “We will be using biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all our forthcoming phones. Already, we have eliminated the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in all our phones.”

Similar to US, Nokia will use the green bins method across the country through its priority dealer centres. Consumers need to drop their old phones for recycling. It is one of the best ways to be a part of the eco-friendly drive.
