OLPC Laptop Finally Employs Windows XP


The ongoing unconfirmed news of the Windows XP-based OLPC has finally made its officially announcement. Needless to say, the low-cost laptop now does not restrict users to the Linux operating system. With Microsoft joining in, OLPC has succeeded in offering both Windows and Linux operating systems on the OLPC XO laptop for convenience.

Developed for children located in the developing countries, the OLPC XO has taken up the challenge of providing high-quality educational software and tools for children with the help of governments and non-governmental organizations.

Users will be able to access e-book reading mode, standard Wi-Fi networking, camera, writing pad and custom keys. The OLPC XO laptop also boasts about power-saving capability and broad ecosystem that assists users about local educational content. Microsoft also plans to offer a plethora of third-party applications and devices that will be compatible with the XO notebook.

Microsoft and OLPC are working together to provide several pilot programs in developing countries, next month. August and September is the actual time when the big journey starts. Initially, the OLPC XO laptop will hit the emerging market countries through the governments or NGOs, who will fund the purchase of a large number of devices for students.

The OLPC XO laptop carries a price tag of $180.
